The initial stage in developing my prototype was designing the handrail. Above, you can see the version of the handrail that I had 3D printed at full scale, along with the metal support. This handrail is designed so that the user can place a book on it, make notes and put their belongings down without them falling.

After consideration and playing with the product, I realised that the handrail was not up to standard, there was an error, and the end was too small. I redesigned the detail to be more ergonomic and better comply with building regulations by curving the bottom end. The sides of the prototype are flat as I took a section of it, but the start will be over-hanging and curved off.
